Salah & Prayer

Salah (prayer) is the foundation of Islamic worship, strengthening faith and discipline. We at the Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat of Toronto, offer a welcoming space for daily congregational prayers, Jumu’ah (Friday) prayers, Taraweeh during Ramadan, and Eid prayers. Through Salah, we seek closeness to Allah, spiritual growth, and unity as a community. Our Jamaat encourages all members to uphold this essential pillar of Islam, fostering devotion, peace, and guidance in daily life.

Hajj & Umrah

Hajj and Umrah are sacred pilgrimages that strengthen faith and devotion. The Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat of Toronto supports community members in preparing for these spiritual journeys through guidance, educational sessions, and group coordination. We celebrate returning pilgrims, praying for their accepted supplications and renewed faith. Whether performing Hajj, the obligatory pilgrimage, or Umrah, a voluntary act of devotion, these journeys bring spiritual fulfillment and a deeper connection to Allah.

Zakat

Zakat is a fundamental pillar of Islam, promoting charity and social justice. We help facilitate the collection and distribution of Zakat to support those in need, both locally and in Sierra Leone. Your contributions help provide food, healthcare, education, and essential aid to the less fortunate. By giving Zakat, we fulfill our religious duty, uplift communities, and foster compassion and unity. Join us in making a meaningful impact through charitable giving.

Quran Learning

Quran learning is essential for spiritual growth and understanding Islamic teachings. We offer classes for children and adults to recite, memorize, and understand the Quran. Through expert guidance, Tajweed instruction, and interactive lessons, we help learners strengthen their faith and connection to Allah. Our programs foster a love for the Quran, encouraging lifelong learning and the application of its teachings in daily life.

Funerals

The Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat of Toronto provides compassionate support for families during times of loss. We ensure that funeral arrangements are made according to Islamic traditions, offering guidance on Ghusl (ritual washing), Salat al-Janazah (funeral prayer), and burial. Our community comes together to offer condolences, prayers, and emotional support to grieving families, helping them navigate this difficult time with faith and compassion. We believe in the importance of honoring the deceased and upholding Islamic funeral rites with dignity and respect.

Charity

At the Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat of Toronto, we are dedicated to making a meaningful impact through various charitable initiatives that provide essential support to those in need. Our fundraising efforts help supply food, healthcare, education, and financial assistance to individuals and families facing hardship. We extend our outreach to emergency relief, orphan support, and other humanitarian projects, ensuring that no one in our community is left behind. Through these acts of charity, we strengthen the bonds of unity, foster kindness, and uphold the principles of social justice. By working together, we create a community built on care, support, and shared responsibility—making a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most. Join us in our mission to give, uplift, and serve.

Halal Food

The Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat of Toronto is dedicated to promoting halal food that meets the dietary requirements of Islam. We offer community events, gatherings, and initiatives where halal meals are provided, ensuring that all food served is prepared in accordance with Islamic principles. Our commitment to halal food extends to sourcing and supporting local halal vendors, ensuring our members can enjoy nutritious and permissible meals. This promotes not only spiritual wellbeing but also physical health within our community.

What you should know about Ramadan

As Ramadan 2025 approaches, it is essential to understand its significance and how we can prepare spiritually and practically.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, a time of fasting, reflection, prayer, and community.

Fasting from dawn to sunset is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, providing an opportunity for Muslims to purify their hearts, increase devotion, and strengthen their relationship with Allah.

In addition to fasting, Ramadan emphasizes acts of charity, kindness, and self-discipline.

It is a time for Muslims to seek forgiveness, engage in increased prayer, and recite the Quran.

The countdown to Ramadan encourages individuals to spiritually prepare by reflecting on their faith, setting personal goals, and making plans to contribute to charitable causes.

The Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat of Toronto will host various events to help you observe Ramadan with community support, including Taraweeh prayers, Iftar meals, and educational programs to deepen understanding of this blessed month.

Together, let’s make this Ramadan a time of reflection, growth, and service.
